BELLA PUPILS HIGHLIGHT VACCINE BENEFITS

Pupils at Bellahouston Academy are raising awareness of the importance of the Td/IPV vaccination Tetanus (T), Diphtheria (D) and Polio (IPV or inactivated polio vaccine). The school has been offering young people the chance to protect themselves from these illnesses.

School Reporters are urging teenagers to consider getting the booster as it offers protection for 10 years.
The pupils believe the vaccine is an important way for youngsters to protect themselves from serious illness:
Jaspreet (14):"The vaccination is a good idea, it protects us for 10 years and the good thing is that we need to get it once in 10 years."

Harry (14): "I think the vaccination is a really good idea as it protects us for 10 years from all 3 diseases which can potentially kill us."

Laeebah (13): "I think these vaccinations are important for young people because they help in a lot of situations."
Laiqa (13): "The good thing is its just one jag and not 3 different ones."
Saba (14): "I think it is important to get the booster because it protects you from three very dangerous illnesses for 10 years."

Santa (14): “I think it's important to get the vaccine because it will keep you safe from these three diseases for ten years."

Iman (14): " I think its imporant because you won't need to worry about getting the jags in the coming ten years and you don't need to worry about gettting your jags if you are travelling abroad."

Zahra (14): "I think these vaccines are actually good because they protect us from a lot of diseases.
Cole (14): ''I feel that the vaccination is very important, especially if you have a dog(s). And you are also protected from lock jaw, which I'm scared of!''

Lauren (14): "I think the jag is a good thing to get because it protects you for a long time."

BELLAHOUSTON ACADEMY LINKS UP WITH BBC NEWS

BBC News School Report

S3 and S4 Bellahouston Academy pupils certainly have a nose for news! They are taking part in the BBC News School Report.

The project gives 11-16 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience.

Using lesson plans and materials from this website, and with support from BBC staff and partners, teachers help students develop their journalistic skills to become School Reporters.

In March, schools take part in an annual News Day, simultaneously creating video, audio and text-based news reports, and publishing them on a school website, to which the BBC aims to link.

The next News Day is Thursday 21 March 2013. So…..watch this space!
