2014-15 - We Day 2015

We Day 2015

Bellahouston Academy pupils made their way to Wembley last week to mingle with inspirational people from all walks of life. They were attending Free the Children’s annual youth empowerment event designed to motivate and encourage individuals to make a difference.

Kweku Mandela, Sir Richard Branson and Martin Sheen were amongst those delivering words to stir and enthuse a generation. Achievements big and small that had helped to create change for the better were celebrated and the party atmosphere was helped along by stars such as Conor Maynard and Shawn Mendes with music that truly pulled at the heart strings.

The event called WE Day signifies a movement in thinking from ‘Me to We’ and 12000 delegates from 1200 UK schools had to earn their way to WE Day by making a difference and taking action to affect change.

Pupils from Bellahouston Academy have earned hundreds of pounds for charity and are continuing to support Free the Children’s campaigns designed to empower families in the third world. As well as juggling full timetables, study and exams, they find time to think about those less fortunate than themselves and are keen to do every little bit that they can to make a difference.

Pupils left feeling that they are part of a wider community and with the confidence that they have skills that can be developed to help make a change in the world.

‘I will never again use the excuse that we are too young to make a difference’
